European Committee of the Regions (CoR)
The European Committee of the Regions

Created in 1994 by the Maastricht Treaty, the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) is an advisory body made up of locally and regionally elected representatives from the 27 EU member states.
Its headquarters are in Brussels.
It offers these representatives the opportunity to formally express their views on EU legislation with direct implications for regions and cities, and thus takes into account the position and needs of local and regional authorities.
The Luxembourg delegation
The Luxembourg delegation at the CoR consists of 6 full members and just as many alternates.
Marc Schaefer, former President of the Luxembourg delegation |
"Local and regional elected officials are the guardians of communal autonomy both nationally and on the European stage. As members, we are the CoR's ambassadors in our country at all levels, but also the spokespeople of the institution among our citizens." |
Although it is one of the smallest, the Luxembourg delegation is nevertheless very active: its members are intensively involved in the work of CoR.
The list of opinions adopted by CoR on the reports of Luxembourg members, their interventions and their regular participation in the events organised by CoR attest to their investment both within the institution and at national level, where they meet the citizens to raise awareness of and promote the actions of CoR.
